The exhibition "Michelangelo and Beyond" at the ALBERTINA

No artist after Michelangelo can ignore the body image of the Italian pioneer: through the formation of the canon, he shaped the ideal of the athletic body, especially the male nude, like no other.

The exhibition "Michelangelo and Beyond" in the ALBERTINA presents the lasting influence of the main master of the Italian Renaissance on the artists of his time and traces the development of the canon from the High Renaissance to Mannerism, the rediscovery of the Michelangelesque model in Rubens to the shift away from it in Classicism as well as the radical departure from this model by Klimt and Schiele.

From 15 September 2023 in the ALBERTINA!
